Have you ever stepped foot in a boutique hotel for a weekend getaway and decided right then and there that you never wanted to leave? There is a reason chic hotels are so relaxing and inviting, they were designed to be that way by professionals. Don’t worry though, I am going to teach you a few of their tricks.

Frequently, my clients ask me if I can keep the basic design elements and just give their space that chic flavor. Here are a few key ideas about how a I can help you style your space to look and feel like your favorite hotel.

Boutique Hotel Styles Walls

My first question to you will be: what it is about your favorite retreat that makes you feel so at home and try to replicate that feeling? If your answer was “The bedroom” I will totally agree that this is a good place to start because, after all, that’s a hotel’s main room.

Many trendy boutique hotels right now are using dark wall coverings. You can go for dark rich colors and use textured wallpaper for an opulent effect. Dark colors imply an imminent environment. You can brighten a space that has dark walls with silver or white accent pieces or mirrors. You could also use two different but matching prints on adjacent walls such as patterned wallpaper on one wall and exposed brick on the other.

Plush Bedding At Home And Away

One thing that always sets a hotel apart is the plump, fluffy bed coverings and crisp white sheets. Keep in mind, hotels worth their salt will always have high thread-count sheets for a luxury feel. With the right color and material combination you can select the perfect bedding to recreate that vacation space feel.

Outfit The Tables With Style

Many times, people tell me “I don’t know what it is, but everything in boutique hotel we stayed seemed to be so perfect.” my answer to that is IT IS ALL ABOUT THE SMALL DETAILS. You’ll notice that hotel interior design often features small touches you might not at first notice but collectively help sell the idea of home. For example, here is a great simple trick you can for almost every room, choose a nightstand with cool lamps, a retro clock, harvest fresh-cut flowers and place them together. You can do the same with living room tables, adding just the right accents, to bring life to your spaces.

Design The Perfect Seating Area In Any Room

Another great design I often use for my project is adding a seating area to a bedroom, that simple addition gives you a spot to curl up with a good book and it can also be reminiscent of how boutique hotels are designed. You want to be able to do the most with your space and make room for relaxed activities. A comfortable chair with a small table, a lamp, and maybe a food rest can warm up a room and make it homey. Hotel design will often try to mimic normal home life that feels familiar to us and then elevate it to something greater.

Whether you decide to hire a designer or do this on your own, try creating a mood board with photos from the boutique hotels that best represent your personal style. Visuals will always help get your best ideas across better than words. Soon you’ll have a home you can’t wait to come home to.
