How to Style Your Home: European Edition

Whether you love traveling or you’ve always felt like you were born in the wrong country, one of the best ways to add some flair to your home is by incorporating some traditional European elements. I’ve found that this is one of the best ways to create a timeless design. In this blog, I’ll walk you through my favorite elements that can help you style your home.

1.     Bold usage of light colors

I love the bold usage of light colors because it provides maximum versatility. I recommend shades of white, cream, brown, beige, etc. to bring in neutrality tones to the space. After that, you can offset this neutrality with dark colors like black. If you’re looking to do a large number of rooms in your home, going with a lighter color scheme is also the best route.

2.     Exposed pipes

One of my favorite ways to make a home look more “European” is to leave pipes exposed. This is has become a trendy part of the industrial style and will have you feeling like you’ve stepped into a chic European apartment.

3.     Reclaimed wooden beams

Like exposed pipes, reclaimed wooden beams and leaving those exposed in your house can provide a traditional European style to your home. I love incorporating wooden beams as a way to show off an antique and rustic flair.

4.     European windows

European windows are special, double action, tilt turn windows that allow various degrees of ventilation in your home. Not only are they energy efficient, but they are also well-insulated. Installing these in your home is a tell-tale sign that your home is European-inspired.

5.     Patterned flooring

Europeans have long loved their patterned floors. Whether you’re looking for pretty tiling or a floral rug, this is a can’t miss feature of European décor. I think this is one of the coolest ways to add some unexpected glamour to any room you’re decorating.

6.     Balance of wood and stone

How do you make your home feel like you’re in the European countryside? Incorporate a balance of wood and stone features. This results in a beautiful interior that you just can’t wait to cozy up in.

7.     Vintage sitting area

If you’ve ever been to a European museum, you’re familiar with the vintage sitting area. It’s the area of the house that you wonder, “What exactly do you do with that?” Recreate this posh, luxurious, and elegant sitting area in one of the front rooms of your house or in your bedroom. It’s the European touch every house needs.

8.     European accessories

And of course, you can’t forget the accessories! My favorite European accessories that you must incorporate into any home you’re decorating with a European style include large clocks, fresh flowers, vintage mirrors, heavy fabric curtains, and massive light fixtures. If you feel like being especially European, brass ornate light fixtures are particularly in line with this design style.

Final thoughts

Styling your home like you’ve never left Europe has never been so easy. These are my favorite European design elements that help create a timeless design.
